Considerable amounts of acidic products are produced during the transformation of goods to energy. The development of sudden and great changes in the blood pH by these products is prevented by tamponing systems which include the lungs and kidneys. For the optimal occurrence of intro cellular reactions, the blood pH must be kept between acceptable limits
Patients with disorders of acid-base metabolism are frequently encountered in pediatric emergency words or intensive care units. Good knowledge of the metabolic equilibrium principle will shorten the time of diognosis and treatment.
