Management Of Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease In Emergency Unit
Dr. Arda SAYGILIa
aÇocuk Kardiyoloji Bölümü, Acıbadem Kadıköy Hastanesi, İSTANBUL Cyanotic heart disease commonly presents in the neonatal period. Often, an obvious cardiac reason for cyanosis is decreased pulmonary blood flow such as critical pulmonary stenosis, pulmonary atresia, Tetralogy of Fallot; however, several congenital heart defects cause systemic cyanosis with increased, pulmonary blood flow such as transposition of great arteries, truncus arteriosus, and total anomalous pulmonary venous return. Rapid diagnosis and referral are mandatory because patients can become unstable very quickly. Echocardiography are the diagnostic tools of choice. Prostaglandin E1 promotes blood flow through the ductus arteriosus and is a useful stabilizing maneuver. Early interventional catheterization such as balloon atrial septostomy, valvüloplasty or surgical intervention is often required, either, for palliation or for definitive correction. Current surgical therapy for most lesions has evolved from early palliation and delayed repair to complete correction in early infancy with improved morbidity and mortality. Keywords: Cyanosis, congenital heart disease, heart catheterization, cardiac surgeryTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(50):47-55
