Pediatric Airway Management
Dr. Bülent KARAPINARa
aÇocuk Yoğun Bakım Ünitesi, Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR Safe management of the critically ill child’s airway requires understanding the anatomic and physiologic changes that occur from birth through adolescence, recognition of congenital and acquired airway abnormalities, appreciation of the pathophysiologic consequences of airway manipulation and preparation for potentially difficult airways. Laringoscopy and intubation are potent physiologic stimuli that are associated with severe discomfort, profound cardiovascular and cerebrovascular changes and increased airway reactivity. Recognition of, and preparation for, managing, a difficult airway are essential for preventing potentially lethal complications of intubation. Keywords: Pediatric airway, difficult airway, entubationTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(50):9-15
