Differential Diagnosis Of Acute Dyspnea

Dyspnea is defined as sensation of feeling breathless or awareness of respiratory distress. The most frequent of causes of acute dyspnea are cardiac and pulmonary diseases. The correct diagnosis can usually be made by a good physical examination and anamnesis. If necessary, additional diagnostic tests can be used. Today, one of the most reliable diagnostic tests for distinction of cardiac and non-cardiac reasons is brain natriuretic peptide.
