Psychiatric Emergencies In General Hospital Population

Psychiatry consultations are classified as emergency, daily, and routine. Emergency consultations are requested mostly for delirium, agitation, suicidal ideation or attempts, acute exacarbation of the primary psychiatric disorder and behaviors resulting from personality characteristics of the patient that creates difficulties in the treatment. There are big problems due to the follow-ups of such patients in non psychiatric inpatient services and therefore help of a psychiatrist is needed. Rapid decision for appropriate treatment in collaboration with treatment team and by considering the medical condition and medications of the patient is very important.Keywords: General hospital; emergency psychiatric services; deliriumTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(42):47-60
