Cranial Dysraphism And Calvarial Defective Diseases: Urgent Neurosurgical Aspects
Dr. Hakan EMMEZ,a Dr. M. Kemali BAYKANERa
aPediatrik Nöroşirürji BD, Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Cranial dysraphism and calvarial defective diseases are rare pathologies that include developmental defects of the scalp, calvarium, meninks and brain. Since these pathologies are encountered extremely rare, treatment protocols vary. Moreover, accompanying systemic manifestations of these diseases cause additional difficulties in proper treatment. Skin entirety, presence of CSF leakage and general medical condition of the patients are important factors in determining the urgency of required treatment. In the absence of CSF leakage or a skin defect, appropriate dressing and protection of the defects decreases mortality and morbidity till utilizing the appropriate treatment. Timing of the treatment and the suitable approach are determined individually and unique for every patient. Keywords: Encephalocele; abnormalitiesTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(11):83-86
