Cardiac Trauma

Nowadays cardiac injury is one of the major cause of deaths in traumatized patients. It may be due to penetrating or non-penetrating thorax trauma. A penetrating wound of the heart is one of the most dramatic and urgent problems confronting the cardiac surgeon. Non-penetrating trauma to the heart may result in myocardial contusion or direktly rupture of the free cardiac wall, the ventricular septum or the aortic or atrioventricular valves.
