Forensic toxicology activities include the determination of the presence of ethanol and other chemicals in blood, breath, or other specimens the evaluation of their role in modifying human performance and behavior. The most common problem of human performance testing is to determine driving under the influence of ethanol or drugs. In numerous studies, it has been demonstrated a direct relationship between an increased blood ethanol concentration in drivers and an increased risk of involvement in road accidents. In emergency toxicology, most commonly determinated agents are ethanol, some drugs of abused, such as benzodiazepines, opiates, amphetamines, cocaine, phencyclidine, and marijuana.
