Dr. Hülya SAĞMANLIGİL ÖZDEMİR,a Dr. Veysel KAPLANOĞLUa
aarmakoloji AD,Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, VAN Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless and odourless gas formed by incomplete combustion of organic materials. CO poisoning is being an important cause of morbidity and mortality in our country and the others, causes significant pathologies in the body as well as death by decreasing oxygen-carrying capacity of blood. The clinical presentation depends on the duration and intensity of exposure. Mild symptoms include malaise, headache, nause, vomiting and memory deficits. More severe intoxication is characterized by overt neurological features or. delayed neuropsyhiatric deteriorations. Controversy continues as to whether CO intoxication should be treated by normobaric or hyperbaric oxygen therapy however it is clear that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is more effective, particularly in preventing delayed neurological deterioration. Keywords: Carbon monoxide (CO), deliberate, diagnosis and therapyTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(46):74-80
