Dr. Özkan KANATa
aTıbbi Onkoloji BD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA Hypercalcemia is one of the most commonly encountered electrolyte disorders in clinical practice. The most common causes of hypercalcemia are primary hyperparathyroidism and malignancies. Severe hypercalcemia should be managed aggressively with a combination of intravenous fluid, bisphosphonates, calcitonin and steroids. Hypoparathyroidism and vitamin D-related diseases are most common hypocalcemic disorders observed clinically. Acute, symptomatic hypocalcemia requires emergency treatment. In this article, the most common causes, clinical symptoms and emergency treatment of hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia are summarized. Keywords: Hypercalcemia, hypocalcemia, emergency treatmentTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(37):27-29
