Dr. Fatih ÇELENK,a Dr. İsmet BAYRAMOĞLUa
aKBB AD, Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is symptom of cohlear injury and remains one of the major unsolved otologic emergencies. Etiological theories of sudden sensorineural hearing loss include infection, trauma, vascular causes, autoimmune diseases, toxic mechanisms. Numerous treatment protocols have been suggested for this clinical entity. Except in cases of therapy directed toward known predisposing factors, there is insufficient evidence in the literature to support medical treatment for sudden sensorineural hearing loss, although steroid therapy appears useful for selected patients. In this article etiological theories, pathophysiological aspects and treatment protocols of sudden sensorineural hearing loss are discussed. Keywords: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss, etiology, pathophysiology, treatmentTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(28):28-35
