Ischemic Colitis
Dr. Murat TÖRÜNERa
aGastroenteroloji BD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Decrease in intestinal blood flow results with mesenteric ischemia. Its frequency increases with age and it is seen more frequently in female gender. Because the vascularity is poor in descending colon, ischemia can occur much more easily in that region. Medical history, clinical presentation and endoscopic tools are commonly used diagnostic tools. Angiography and laparsocopy are also helpful in diagnosis. In non-obstructive ischemic colitis, treatment should be supportive if there is no perforation. Oral intake should be prohibited and liquid-electrolyte supplemantation should be performed. In cases with obstruction, treatment should be surgical. Keywords: Ischemic colitis, mesenteric ischemiaTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(15):26-28
