Anaphylaxis
Dr. Betül Ayşe SİNa
aGöğüs Hastalıkları AD, Allerjik Hastalıklar BD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Anaphylaxis is usually defined as a systemic allergic reaction affecting multiple target organs. It is caused by immediate IgE-mediated release of mediators from mast cells and basophils, whereas the term anaphylactoid reaction refers to a clinically similar event not mediated by IgE. Some foods, drugs and diagnostic agents, along with insect sting are the most common offenders of anaphylaxis. Fatalities may occur during the severe recation. Therefore, rapid evaluation together with appropriate and immediate treatment is essential. The drugs used to treat anaphylaxis and their suggested doses should be initiated for the effective therapy. Also, an accurate identification of the cause and preventive measures is a crucial part of this management. In addition, emergency health care professionals and patients should be better informed, so that emergency treatment can be followed by a complete allergy diagnosis. Keywords: Anaphylaxis, anaphylactoid, fatal, food, insect sting, drugTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(11):31-39
