Approach To The Respiratory Patients With Emergency Dyspnea And Cough
Dr. Öznur AKKOCA YILDIZa
aGöğüs Hastalıkları AD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Dyspnea and cough are two significant complaints of emergency department visitors. Both of them may be indicative of trivial to very serious airway or lung diseases, as well as of extrapulmonary processes. All dyspneic patients should be evaluated in a timely manner. The rapid assessment and treatment in the acute setting are very significant in these patients. More detailed history and examination are completed after initially stabilized. The key principle for managing patients with dyspnea are the delivery of adequate oxygenation and other principles (relief of bronchospasm, elimination of edema, pain management and treatment of infection). The differential diagnosis of cough is extensive and includes infections, inflamatory and neoplastic conditions. In the management of a patient with cough, the cause of the cough should be identified first and then the cause have to be treated. Keywords: Dyspnea, cough, managementTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(11):1-6
